Time Commitments in College

Another challenge facing student athletes is the ability to juggle their team, class and social obligations. For Nick Hartigan '06, a running back for the football team, "It was tough balancing at first ... but it got better" after his first year.Woodson agrees that the transition between high school and college sports is not easy. "Between the running, the workouts and practice ... it is a much larger time commitment," he said. Some athletes choose to end their sports careers in order to re-balance their time commitments. This is just an example of people in college playing sprots and not having a lot of time.

It is very hard to juggle athletics and school. You have to organize your time and give up some things in order not to fall behind.

Funny, I made a post about this in my blog. It is really hard and really frustrating. For softball, we've had four games in a row, each a double-header so technically it's eight games in a row. That really messes up the flow of your life. Getting assignments in on time is rough, seeing anyone you associate with outside of your sport gets hard, and you really have to learn how to prioritize

I always wanted to do sports in high school but I never did because I saw how much my friends struggled to maintain the life that they had beforehand. Now that we are in college, I can't even image how hard it would be to manage your time- especially if you have a job and you are a full time student. I am not doing sports and my schedule is busier that it has ever been- there is no way I would be able to do sports unless I quit my job and I know that I can not afford to do that. It sucks to think about it because college is supposed to be 'the time of your life' but instead I'm stuck working.

I agree that it is really hard to balance school, a sport, and anything else. But I feel like it's kind of necessary to get yourself involved in school because after this you won't have a chance because you'll have a job and more responsibilities. On the other hand some people don't get the chance to do sports because not having a job isn't possible from a financial stand point. But I think that's were intermerel sports come in handy. As long as people get involved in something in school to enrich the experience is what's important in my opinion.
